As college application deadlines approached, students spent the fall months racing to submit their information and essays to their dream schools.
Among the most important things a high school senior experiences is applying to the college or university they’ll attend following high school. During the stressful period, Mrs Gutierrez, college and career guidance counselor, was a beacon of support for Shadow seniors.
Mrs. Gutierrez’s workshops became a source of relief for many.
“They have helped me become so much more confident and correct in my applications,” explained Evelyn Walker.
Xitlali Natividad also found relief in the available application workshops. Initially she was intimidated. As a first-generation student applying to college, and feeling a lack of support at home, she was procrastinating. Mrs. Gutierrez’s workshops were a game-changer for Natividad. She praised Mrs. Gutierrez for her “passion and willingness to go above and beyond helping and guiding students through the application process.”
Mrs. Gutierrez’s commitment is fueled by her desire to witness students succeed, and have options. She wants Shadow Hills High School students to feel supported. She also values the sense of unity and mutual motivation among students in their academic journeys. When asked about the Class of 2024, Gutierrez noted the students’ dedication.
“These students are pushing themselves to do more,’’ Gutierrez said.
