The school year is picking up the pace, and so are the athletes. Football started with the Annual Mayor’s Cup the first Friday of the school year. Shadow Hills took over that game with 19 unanswered points, defeating Indio, 19 – 0.
The win set the tone for other teams, including boys and girls cross country, boys water polo, girls tennis, girls golf, and girls volleyball, many experiencing wins throughout the season. It’s not all sports for these athletes, however. They’re mindful of their academics as well. Shadow Hills stresses the importance of academics and athletics going hand in hand. Students are required to maintain a certain GPA level in order to participate in a sport.
“We’ve had multiple teams win or be recognized by California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section for academic achievement as well as Riverside County Office of Education,” explained Coach Walsh, Shadow Hill’s Athletic Director.
